Piotr Gąsior

Piotr Gąsior

Piotr Gąsior (7.dan) was born on 20 December 1973 in Trzebnica. Instructor and international judge. A traveller. He has visited five continents. In 1988 he trained kick-boxing at AWF Wrocław University and judo at MOSiR [City Sports and Leisure Centre] at Gwarna Street in Wrocław.

He has been training taekwon-do since 1989. His first coaches were Wojciech Dolny and Andrzej Undro. In organisational and legal matters, he relied for many years on the knowledge and advice of Ryszard Murat from Warsaw, the president of the PFDSiSW [Polish Martial Arts Federation].

Holder of the 7th dan in Taekwon-do.

He educated over 100 holders of black belts and a number of instructors.

Organizational activity

The youngest in the history of the martial arts movement founder and president of a national organisation: Polish Taekwon-do Union (PUT) in 1993. In 2006, together with a group of coaches, he founded the Polish Taekwon-do Federation.

  • 1993-2012 – Vice-President of the Polish Martial Arts Federation
  • 2003 – 2006 member of the Board of the Lower Silesian Sports Federation.
  • 2003 – 2006 President of the Lower Silesian Regional Olympic Taekwondo Association (WT).
  • 2011 – he created Europe’s first complete system of coaching contracts in Taekwon-do, thus introducing legal and financial order to the structures in Poland
  • Between 1991 and 2025, thanks to him or with his participation, Taekwon-do appeared in more than 100 cities and towns in Poland – which is a precedent
  • he established the DO-WORLD Foundation „Learn the World with Taekwon-do” (now, after the name change: Polish Foundation for Taekwon-do Development).

He has been to the ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation) headquarters in Vienna twice.

Awards and honors

  • On 8 May 2012 he received the Bronze Cross of Merit awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Bronisław Komorowski, for his contribution to the development of Taekwon-do in Poland and for many years of work with children and young people.
  • On 5 February 2014, he was awarded the Bronze Badge „For Meritorious Service to Sport” by the Minister of Sport, Mr. Andrzej Biernat.
  • On 2 August 2019, he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, for his contribution to the development of Taekwon-do in Poland.
  • On 3 March 2022, he was awarded the Silver Badge „For Meritorious Service to Sport” by the Minister of Sport, Mr. Kamil Bortniczuk.

Achievements of trainees

As a coach, he can look back on the success of his charges on the national, European and world stage. Major successes include:

  • Karolina Gajek – World Junior Champion (Eindhoven, Netherlands 2000)
  • Nina Chyży – Junior World Vice Champion (Eindhoven, Netherlands 2000)
  • Junior Women’s Team – World Championship Bronze Medal (Eindhoven, Netherlands 2000)
  • Marcin Stachowicz – World Junior Champion (Miami, USA 2002)
  • Nina Chyży – World Senior Vice Champion (Miami, USA 2002)
  • Krzysztof Jaromin – World Junior Championships Bronze Medal (Miami, USA 2002)
  • Nina Gąsior – silver and bronze medals at the World Cup Brazil 2019 (Foz de Iguasu)
  • Mateusz Kowalczyk – gold medal at the World Cup Brazil 2019 (Foz de Iguasu)

Publications and projects

Author of the book 'Taekwon-do – my whole world. Technique”.
Originator and implementer of awards – TAEKWONDOKA statuettes, which are a community award for exceptional people associated with Taekwon-do (award usually given annually).
Originator and implementer of the annual series of Central Summer Camps (COL), which are the largest martial arts events in Poland.
Author of numerous articles on martial arts and combat sports in the specialist and general press.

Organiser of dozens of regional, national and international events, including:

  • three National Far Eastern Martial Arts Festivals: two in Wrocław’s Hala Stulecia [Centennial Hall] and one in Opole’s Okrąglak,
  • Open Taekwon-do (TI) World Cup in Okrąglak
  • the first ever All-Poland Art and Sports Fair WROMASTERS 2006 (Hala Stulecia [Centennial Hall]).

He has also organised dozens of summer and winter camps, including one based on the YOUTH programme of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System (EU funds, Poland-England exchange).

Representative for Poland of a worldwide Taekwon-do federation:

  • Taekwon-do International (TI) – United Kingdom, Bristol

In 2025, he released an unprecedented album of accounts of his competitors’ travels related to Taekwon-do tournaments and related events, entitled CULTURES OF THE WORLD WITH TAEKWON-DO 2017- 2024.
